I awaited this latest offering from John Butt's Dunedin Consort with great anticipation. Given the trailer video below, who wouldn't? The immediacy of the recording and closeness of the singers and instrumentalists makes these small forces sound tremendously full. It is the best of both worlds; the detail of individual lines with the power of Linn Record's fabulous recording technique. Apart from my favourite chorus (below), another highlight is Matthew Brook's vivid 'Pluck root and branch'. Definitely one to replace your old Esthers!
